Biography
João Marinho Neto was born in Maranguape, Ceará, Brazil, on October 5 1912. During his childhood, his parents moved the family to a rural area of Apuiarés. At some point, he married Josefa Albano dos Santos (1920–1994), with whom he had four children: Antônio, José, Fátima, and Vanda. Later in his life, João had three more children with his second wife Antonia Rodrigues Moura: Vinícius, Jarbas, and Conceição. Through hard work, João built a financially stable life, accruing assets such as land and houses.
On October 5 2022 he celebrated his 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian.
On April 2 2024, following the death of 114-year-old Juan Vicente Pérez Mora of Venezuela, he became the oldest known living man in South America.
On November 25 2024, following the death of 112-year-old British John Tinniswood, he became the World’s Oldest Living Man.
João Marinho Neto currently lives in the city of Apuiarés, Ceará, Brazil, at the age of 113.
