Biography

Jeanne Chabbert was born in Mazamet, Tarn, Occitanie, France, on 1 August 1909. She was the daughter of Charles Durand and Marie Ilhe. She had a sister, Gabrielle Marie Eugénie (1905–1985). Her father died during the World War I, and she was subsequently adopted by the nation in 1919 with her sister.

On 24 September 1934, at the age of 25, she married Michel Antonin Chabbert (1905–1985). The couple had at least four children: Bernard, Anne-Marie, Michèle, and Françoise.

On her 100th birthday in 2009, Chabbert chose to move to nursing home Saint-Joseph, situated in Mazamet. In September 2015, she was reported to be the oldest subscriber to the newspaper “La Montagne Noire”.

On 19 January 2021, Chabbert received her first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, making her one of the oldest (known) people to receive the vaccine.

On 22 May 2021, following the death of 116-year-old Jeanne Bot, Chabbert became the oldest living person in Occitanie.

Jeanne Chabbert died in Mazamet, Tarn, Occitanie, France, on 10 February 2022, at the age of 112 years, 193 days. She was survived by her four children, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters.
