Biography
Eugene John Baltes (known as “Gene”) was born in Scott County, Minnesota, USA, on October 29 1914 to parents John Peter and Margaret Josephine (nee Breuer) Baltes.
In 1960 he married Doris Violet Marsh. It is thought they had no children together. Doris passed away on March 26 1988. At some point after this, Gene moved to Illinois, where he met and married his second wife; Zenaida. He had served in the Second World War in the Pacific theater – eventually living in the VA care facility in River Grove, Leyden, Cook County, Illinois.
In October 2024 he turned 110 there, becoming a supercentenarian.
Gene passed away in the care facility there on December 29 2024, aged 110 years, 61 days.
