Augusto Moreira de Oliveira was born in Guetim, Espinho, Aveiro District, Portugal on 6 October 1896 to Joaquim Moreira and Margarida dos Reis Oliveira.

In October 2006, he celebrated his 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

He became the oldest known living man in Portugal, following the death of 107-year-old Jose Luis Ladeira on 21 May 2003.

Following the death of 115-year-old Maria de Jesus on 2 January 2009, he became the oldest known living person from Portugal.

Augusto Moreira de Oliveira died in Grijo, Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto District, Portugal on 13 February 2009 at the age of 112 years, 130 days due to respiratory problems associated with influenza. Following his death, then 111-year-old Antonio de Castro became the oldest living man and person in Portugal. At the time of his death, he was the world’s fourth-oldest living man, behind Tomoji Tanabe, Henry Allingham and Walter Breuning and the second-oldest in Europe, behind Allingham.
