Biography

Antonio Todde was born to a poor shepherd family in the medieval center of Tiana, Sardinia, Italy on 22 January 1889. Todde was the third of 12 children. He had a long-lived family; his father, Francesco lived to be 90 years old, and his mother Francesca became 98. His sister Maria Agostina was still alive at the age of 97 at the time of his death. She died aged 102.

Todde left Sardinia to fight in World War 1, where he was injured in the shoulder by a grenade. In 1920, he married Maria Antonia, then aged 25, and they had four daughters and a son. She died in 1990, aged 95. Todde died on 3 January 2002 in Tiana, Sardinia, Italy at the age of 112 years, 346 days as the oldest living man in the world.
