Kiyotaka Mizuno, the oldest living man in Japan, dies at 111
The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is sadden to reported that Mr. Kiyotaka Mizuno (水野清隆), the oldest living man in Japan, sadly passed away of natural causes in Iwata, Shizuoka on 8 February 2026 at the final age of 111 years and 331 days. He’s also the oldest living person in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Kiyotaka Mizuno was born in Iwata, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan on 14 March 1914 (Taishō 3). In his youth, he served as a guard for the Emperor and served during the February 26th Incident in 1936 (Shōwa 11) and World War II. After the war, he worked as a farmer, producing shrimp potatoes, green onions, and white leeks until he was around 85. He has four children.
On 23 November 2021, following the death of 107-year-old Kentaro Muramatsu (村松健太郎) of Yaizu City, he became the oldest living man in Shizuoka Prefecture.
On 14 March 2024, he celebrated his 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian. At the age of 110, he wakes up at 6:30 AM and eats three meals every day.
On 3 July 2024, at the age of 110 years and 111 days, he surpassed the final age of Takejirō Takayama (高山竹治郎, 30 September 1909 – 18 January 2020), he became the oldest man to have ever lived in Shizuoka Prefecture.
On 21 August 2024, following the death of 110-year-old anonymous man of Tokyo Prefecture, he became the oldest living man in Japan.
His age was verified by Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare, Japan, as well as Waclaw Jan Kroczek and Tom Li, and validated by the GRG on 14 September 2024.
On 9 November 2025, following the death of 112-year-old Yoshi Moriya (森谷よし), he became the oldest living person in Shizuoka Prefecture, and the first man to hold this title since 2015.
Kiyotaka Mizuno passed away of natural causes at his home in Iwata, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, at 9:33 AM on 8 February 2026, at the age of 111 years and 331 days. Following his death, then 111-year-old Hikaru Katō (加藤光, born 2 May 1914) of Kumamoto Prefecture became the oldest living man in Japan, while 111-year-old Tama Ōishi (大石たま, born 26 July 1914) became the oldest living person in Shizuoka prefecture, and 109-year-old Toshirō Ozawa (小澤俊郎, born 1 October 1916) became the oldest living man in Shizuoka prefecture.
