Former First Lady of Costa Rica passes away at 114
The Gerontology Research Group is saddened to announce the passing of Marita Comacho Quirós at age 114.
Former Costa Rican First Lady (1962-1968), Marita reached supercentenarian status in 2021, beating the odds to live 114 years, 102 days. She is the oldest known and age-validated person in the history of Costa Rica and gained the title of oldest person known for reasons other than their longevity, surpassing Leila Denmark’s (1898-2012) record by 42 days.
Marita passed away on June 20 2025. On her passing, the title of oldest known person living in Costa Rica passes to Zoraida Montezuma (born October 31 1913).
