The GRG is delighted to announce the age validation of Martha Johnson.

Martha Jane Iles was born July 11 1913 in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, USA to Henry and Essie (nee Sullivan) Iles. She had at least two siblings. At a young age, the family moved to Texas, settling in Jefferson County. By 1940, Martha was living in Missouri. By 1950, she had moved to California with her mother and siblings, settling in Los Angeles, where she still lives.

On January 18 1953, Martha married Lloyd Johnson in Los Angeles. Lloyd sadly passed away on June 9 1991, leaving Martha a widow. She did not remarry after this.

Martha continues to live with family in Los Angeles, California to this day.

Validation

Biographical information to assist in finding records to authenticate Martha’s age were supplied by the family. Martha is first recorded in the 1920 US federal census, aged 6, tying in well with her age claim. She is further found in the 1940 and 1950 censuses, also with a consistent age. Unfortunately, Martha does not have a birth record, baptism record or family bible entry, so validation relies on census and other records, as well as information gleaned from her family. The name change from Iles to Johnson is found in the marriage record. Other later life records have been found to prove continued existence.

Longevity appears to run in Martha’s family. Her mother lived to age 97 (1894-1992) and her father to age 93 (1888-1982).

The Gerontology Research Group would like to thank the family for reaching out and providing documents and life history to assist in validating their loved one’s age.

Martha’s age was validated by the GRG today; March 26 2025. As of today, she is 111 years, 258 days of age. We also extend warm congratulations to Martha on her long life!
