Age validation of Lugenie Jeffers (1881-1993)
Lugenie Lockhart was born in Cason, Morris County, Texas, USA on June 4 1881 to parents Charlie and Susan (nee Gray) Lockhart.
Lugenie married Will Gibson around 1901 in Oklahoma and continued to live there for some time. On August 28 1928, she married Shelby J Jeffers in Harmon, Oklahoma. In total, it appears Lugenie had around seven children – some from each marriage.
By 1940, Lugenie and Shelby were living back in Texas. After being widowed, Lugenie continued to live in Texas until her death, eventually outliving most of her children. She passed away in Littlefield, Lamb County, Texas on August 18 1993, aged 112 years, 75 days.
Validation
Lugenie claimed to be born in 1877, according to her gravestone. Interestingly, she appears to be listed with her family in the 1880 US census. It is likely, though, that this was a sibling who died very young and ‘our’ Lugenie was named after her. This is because there is a christening record giving her date of birth as June 4 1881. So it is possible that Lugenie was born in 1878/1879, based on the 1880 census record age given. But, to err on the side of caution it has been decided to go with the date of birth given on the christening record. This also ties in with the date of birth given on her SSA (Social Security Application) and SSDI (Social Security Death Index) documents later in life.
