Mary Walker, United Kingdom’s second-oldest living person, dies at 113
The Gerontology Research Group is saddened to report news that Mrs. Mary Florence Walker, the second-oldest living person in the United Kingdom, died in Croydon, London, England, UK. on 13 September 2024 at the age of 113 years, 16 days.
Mary Florence Walker was born in London, England, United Kingdom on 28 August 1911.
On 28 August 2021, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian.
On 16 January 2024, following the death of 112-year-old Edna Strickland, she became the last known British person born in 1911.
Her age was verified by GRG-UK Correspondent Oliver Trim, and validated by the GRG on 30 July 2023.
At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in London, and the second-oldest living person in the United Kingdom, behind 115-year-old Ethel Caterham.
