The GRG announces a third validation today – Aileen Emily Kars, nee Schwass of New Zealand, born September 12th 1913.
Aileen was born on a farm in Tokomaru, Manawatu-Whanganui, New Zealand (North Island), although her birth was registered in Otautau, Southland, New Zealand (South Island). In 1935 she married Leslie John Henry Kars and they went on to have two sons, Russell and Graham. Sadly, Aileen’s husband Leslie passed away in mid 1990. Aileen lived independently until shorlty before her 100th birthday, when she moved into a care home. She has been the oldest known living person in New Zealand since July of 2022.
Aileen’s age was verified by myself and Waclaw Jan Kroczek, later accepted by the GRG on December 3rd 2023.
The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is a global non-profit dedicated to validating, recording, and researching supercentenarians — those aged 110 or older. Founded in 1990, we focus on human longevity, healthy aging, and studying the lives of the world’s oldest people.
Our work requires significant funding for research, travel, and maintaining our website. Any financial support would greatly aid our mission to advance the understanding of human longevity.
If you wish to support our research financially, please donate to our efforts, but only if you can afford it. We would greatly appreciate even a symbolic support. Thank you!
