Clarabell Demers of North Dakota turns 113

The Gerontology Research Group are delighted to report that Mrs. Clarabell Demers of Grafton, North Dakota, USA, has turned 113 years old.

Mrs. Demers, known as “Grandma D” is the oldest living resident of North Dakota, and the sixth-oldest validated living person in the United States.

Clarabell Demers was born in Acton, North Dakota, USA, on November 3, 1910, the oldest of three children born to Victor and Philomina Campbell. She had a younger brother, Harold (deceased 1981), and a younger sister, Odell (deceased 1975). Demers grew up in the village of Oakwood, which is just east of Grafton. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church there before going on to St. John’s in Grafton. She married Frederick Demers in February 1930 and had four children with him, including Mary Jane (deceased 2018), Donald, and Ronald (deceased 2015). Frederick died in 1979. With her late husband, Demers helped run the JR’s bar in Oakwood.

Clarabell Demers has been the oldest living person in the state of North Dakota following the death of 115-year old Iris Westman on Jan. 3, 2021.

Clarabell Demers’s age was verified by Waclaw Jan Kroczek and Marilyn Hagerty, and validated by the GRG on 20 March 2023.
