Biography
Susannah Mushatt was born in Lowndes County, Alabama, USA, on July 6 1899 to parents John Callie and Mary (nee Cook) Mushatt.
In the 1920’s she moved to New York. There she met and married John Henry Jones in Mount Vernon, Westchester County, on June 18 1929. The couple had no known children together and separated in the 1930’s. Susannah never remarried after this.
In July 2009 she celebrated her 110th birthday, gaining status as a supercentenarian. This was to be the first of seven such occasions.
Susannah passed away in a care facility in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, on May 12 2016, aged 116 years, 311 days. She was the oldest known and age-validated living person in the world before her passing.
