Biography
Mary Agnes Maxwell (known as “Mae”) was born in Rochester, Monroe County, New York, USA, on January 20 1889 (claimed 1887) to parents Joseph and Katherine (nee McCormack) Maxwell.
On October 5 1910 she married George Gilmore Harrington in Oneida County, New York, going on to have at least once child together – a son who died on October 10 1944. George passed away on October 31 1959, after which Mae remained a widow.
In January 1999 she became a supercentenarian on celebrating her 110th birthday.
Mae passed away in a care facility in Utica, Oneida County, New York, on December 29 2002, aged 113 years, 343 days. She was the oldest known and age-validated person in the world before her death.

Date of birth
Mae claimed in her Social Security correspondence to be born in January 1887. This is supported by the 1900 census, but almost no records after this. It is possible she was born in 1887, but no birth record has been found to support this. Given that most records point to birth in January 1889, her age was validated in accordance with this.
