Biography

Jane Leanora Smith was born in Clarendon Parish, Jamaica (then part of the British West Indies), on June 22 1901 to parents Alexander Smith and Johanna Dawkins.

On November 24 1946 she married Robert Nathaniel Young in Clarendon. They had no biological children, but adopted at least two children.

In June 2011 Jane celebrated her 110th birthday, gaining supercentenarian status.

She was last confirmed alive on July 13 2013 at the age of 112 years, 21 days.
