Biography
Ligato was born on 18 February 1901 in Palizzi. He was one of thirteen children in his family. He moved to Ventimiglia in 1957 and lived there until his death.
He attributed his longevity to drinking wine. At the age of 108, he became Italy’s oldest living man. He became a supercentenarian in February 2011.
Ligato died at his home on 2 March 2012. He had his last meal at 7 P.M., which was a glass of grappa and a biscuit. He then sat in his armchair, fell asleep, and did not wake up. He was pronounced dead 2 hours later. 110-year old Giuseppe Mirabella of Sicily became Italy’s oldest man. Ligato is the oldest man ever from Liguria
