Biography
Dorothy Ethel Burns (known by her middle name) was born in Lucknow, India, on November 27 1902 to parents Henry Edward and Blanche Eleanor Caroline (nee Wood) Burns. She was baptized on April 26 1903.
Ethel was twice married – first to Alec Featherstone Haugh Pushong on March 19 1921. They separated and then she married Laurence Patrick Farrell on December 13 1934. They had several children together.
The couple moved to Australia in 1948, settling in the state of Victoria. Laurence passed away there on March 3 1991, after which Ethel never remarried.
In November 2012, she turned 110, becoming a supercentenarian.
Ethel passed away in Blackburn South, Melbourne, Victoria, on December 20 2015 at the age of 113 years, 23 days.
