Biography

Engraciano Gonzalez Barroso was born in Ricobayo, Zamora, Castile and Leon, Spain, on July 10 1915 to parents Francisco and Martina.

He studied aeronautics in Madrid. When he finished his studies, the Spanish Civil War broke out and he was called up for military service, working as an aircraft technician. Once the war ended, he joined Iberia Airlines in 1940 as a mechanical officer and was assigned to the Canary Islands.

On May 21, 1941, he married the love of his life, Carmen Salgado González, in Coreses (Zamora, Spain). She moved with him to the Canary Islands, where they had their first child. They returned to Madrid after a few years, where he continued working for Iberia Airlines until his retirement. His other two children were born in Madrid.

After his retirement, he traveled extensively with his wife throughout Europe and Spain. His great passion is dancing, which he enjoyed with his wife Carmen, until she passed away at the age of 101.

In July 2025, Engraciano turned 110, becoming a supercentenarian. He passed away in Spain on January 26 2026, aged 110 years, 200 days.
