Biography
Emiliano Mercado del Toro was born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, on August 21 1891 to parents Delfin Mercado and Gumercinda del Toro.
He never married, nor had any children.
He served in World War I, eventually becoming the longest lived veteran from that war and any war.
In August 2001, Emiliano turned 110, becoming a supercentenarian. In November 2004, aged 113, he became the oldest age-validated living man in the world. From December 2006 until his passing, Emiliano was also the oldest age-validated living person in the world, as well as the last known person alive born in 1891.
He passed away in Isabela, Puerto Rico, on January 24 2007, aged 115 years, 156 days.
