Biography
Alelia Stewart was born in Grifton, Lenoir County, North Carolina, USA, on July 6 1905 to parents John and Hattie (nee Young) Stewart.
In the 1920’s she moved to New York, where she met and married Furd Murphy on October 7 1926 in Manhattan, New York City. The couple went on to have two children together. Furd passed away on November 30 1953, after which Alelia never remarried.
In July 2015 she became a supercentenarian, celebrating her 110th birthday. This was to be the first of four such occasions.
Alelia passed away in Harlem, New York City, New York, on November 23 2019, aged 114 years, 140 days.
