Biography
Virginia Jefferson, born as Virginia Adair Davis in Forest, Bedford County, Virginia, USA on 14 August 1912, was a living testament to a life rooted in hard work, resilience, and faith. Her childhood was spent on a farm alongside her eight siblings – four brothers and four sisters – surrounded by the daily tasks of tending to cows, chickens, horses, pigs, and a flourishing garden.
Even at the tender age of nine, Virginia recalls the responsibility of milking a cow, embodying the work ethic that would become a hallmark of her character. Her days were filled with any task that contributed to the well-being of the farm.
In April 1938, Virginia entered a new chapter of her life with her marriage to Malcolm Jefferson. Their journey together spanned seven fruitful decades until Malcolm’s passing in May 2008.
When asked about the secret to her longevity, she humbly attributes it to her hard-working demeanor and her unwavering faith in God. Her life story is a vivid mosaic of resilience, dedication, and the profound impact of a strong work ethic.
On 24 February 2023, following the death of 111-year-old Josephine Jones, she became the oldest living person in the U.S. state of Virginia.
