Biography
Tetsu Ishii was born in Tomai, Aomori Prefecture, Japan (Tome Village (now Ninohe), Iwate Prefecture (according to her obituary) on 15 September 1904. Following the death of 109-year-old Ritsu Kudo on 7 July 2013, she became the oldest living person in Aomori Prefecture.
On her 110th birthday in 2014, Ishii was recuperating in the hospital since she hurt her leg. Her eldest son, Yoshikazu, said that her secret to longevity was her generous personality.
Tetsu Ishii died of old age in Takko, Aomori Prefecture, Japan on 4 March 2017 at the age of 112 years, 170 days.
She holds the title of longevity recordholder of Aomori Prefecture.
