Biography
Tane Matsubara was born in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, on October 15, 1909, as the eldest of ten siblings. She embarked on various life milestones:
At the age of 20, she entered into marriage and subsequently had eight children, comprising five sons and three daughters. After her marriage, she resided in Imakane in Hiyama Subprefecture.
In 1936, Matsubara relocated to Biratori, where she engaged in the business of selling tofu.
In her later years:
Matsubara lived with her sons in both Tomakomai and Hidaka until she moved into a nursing home in Tomakomai in 2007.
On her 110th birthday in October 2019, she celebrated her entry into supercentenarian status.
Remarkably, even as a supercentenarian, Matsubara had the ability to read newspapers. If she encountered a character she didn’t recognize, she would seek assistance to learn about it.
As of 2022, she had 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
As of the latest available information, Tane Matsubara resided in Tomakomai, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan, at the time of her 114th. She held the distinction of being the oldest known living resident of Hokkaido Prefecture and was the fourth-oldest validated living person in Japan, following Fusa Tatsumi, Tomiko Itooka, and Okagi Hayashi.
