Biography

Syun Suzuki was born in Japan on 25 September 1892.

Following the death of 108-year-old Nisuke Yokozawa on 24 April 2000, Suzuki became the oldest known living person in Yamagata Prefecture.

On 28 September 2001, at the age of 109 years, 3 days, Suzuki surpassed the age of Tsume Harada (1887–1996) of Yamagata City, becoming the oldest known person ever recorded in Yamagata Prefecture. She held the title until her age was surpassed by Shun Wakano in 2012.

In September 2002, Suzuki celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming the first supercentenarian on record in Yamagata Prefecture. In September 2004, she was reported to be the sixth-oldest known living person in Japan.

Suzuki’s age was verified by Japan’s MHLW and Nobuko Endo, and validated by the GRG on 15 September 2004.

Syun Suzuki died in Kaminoyama, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan on 17 December 2004 at the age of 112 years, 83 days.
