Biography

Shitsu Nakano was born in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan on 1 January 1894.

In January 2004, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

She had eight children, 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Following the death of 114-year-old Yone Minagawa on 13 August 2007, she became the oldest living person in Japan.

Shitsu Nakano died of natural causes in a home for the elderly in Ogōri, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan on 19 August 2007 at the age of 113 years, 230 days. Following her death, then 113-year-old Tsuneyo Toyonaga became the oldest living person in Japan.
