Biography

Rozalia Milczarek was born in Wólka Czarnińska, Russian Empire (now in Masovia Voivodeship, Poland) on 5 September 1869.

In her later life she moved to Niedoradz, located in Lubuskie Voivodeship, Poland. Her longevity attracted the widespread attention, including the US media. She became the oldest living person in Poland following the passing of Filipina Niewiadomska on 16.08.1977.

Rozalia Milczarek died in Niedoradz, Otyń Municipality, Nowa Sól County, Lubuskie Voivodeship, Poland on 5 January 1981, at the age of 111 years, 122 days. In the light of the current knowledge, Rozalia Milczarek is the first supercentenarian who was born and died in present-day Poland. At the time of her death, she was the second-oldest living person in Europe after Augustine Tessier, and the fourth-oldest living person in the world after Augustine TessierNellie Spencer and Jane Piercy.

In 2019, Dr. Wacław Jan Kroczek, GRG Correspondent for Poland and the Nordic Countries, travelled to Niedoradz and Zielona Góra to meet the living relatives of the first Polish supercentenarian, validating her case.

Rozalia Milczarek was the longevity recordholder of Lubuskie Voivodeship until her age was surpassed by Antonia Partyka in 2020, who was the first person in the history of Lubuskie Voivodeship to celebrate her 112th birthday.

Rozalia Milczarek was the Longevity Recordholder of Poland from 1979 until her age was surpassed by Wanda Wierzchleyska in 2011. She held the title for 32 years.
