Biography
Plazida Insausti was born on a farm in Astigarreta, a neighborhood within the town of Beasain, in the region of Goierri, Gipuzkoa, Basque Country, Spain. She married Antonio Etxeberria, and moved to a farmhouse in Garin, where she would remain for the rest of her life. With her husband, she would have two daughters, named Maria and Jesusal.
As a centenarian, she maintained much of her independence, as she was known to still work in her garden at the age of 100. However, by the time she had turned 110, her vision, hearing, and mobility were diminished, while her memories and cognitive faculties remained intact. At the time of her 110th birthday, her descendants consisted of three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild born in 2005. In her later years, she lived with her daughter, Maria, in a farmhouse.
Plazida Insausti died in Beasain, Gipuzkoa, Basque Country, Spain on 12 September 2007, at the age of 110 years, 342 days.
