Paulette Magne-Ducamin, born on April 21, 1912, in Lelin-Lapujolle, Gers Department, Occitanie, France, has woven a life story marked by resilience and determination.
Declared Ward of the Nation after her father’s passing during World War I, Paulette, despite her fondness for school, began working on a farm at the tender age of 12. Marriage and motherhood brought new chapters, but widowhood in 1950 marked a turning point. Undeterred, her unwavering objective was to ensure her children received an education and secured meaningful occupations, a goal she successfully achieved.
Through the complexities of life, including a second widowhood and a lasting partnership, Paulette’s spirit remained unbroken. Even at the age of 78, she relocated to Riscles, Gers, before settling in Lelin-Lapujolle.
In her centenarian years, Paulette’s independence shone brightly. Tending to her garden, flowers, and faithful dog, she continued cooking, shopping, visiting the local library, and maintaining a daily 2 km walk regardless of weather. In 2018, she returned to Lelin-Lapujolle.
Following the passing of 111-year-old Madeleine Reboul on August 24, 2022, Paulette Magne-Ducamin ascended as the oldest known living person in Occitanie. The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) validated her remarkable age on November 6, 2023, thanks to the diligence of GRG-France Correspondent Sylvain Grosgeorge.
At 111 years and 239 days, Paulette Magne-Ducamin resides in Lelin-Lapujolle, Gers, Occitanie, France. She not only holds the title of the oldest known living person in Occitanie but also stands as the eldest in the Gers department, embodying a testament to endurance and vitality.
