Biography
Slack was born on 19 February 1903 in Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada. She was one of six children of Frank Lorne Snider and Annie Carson.
On 4 September 1926 she wed William George Slack, to whom she stayed married until his death in 1988. With her husband and their two children, she moved to Belleville in the early 1950s.
Slack was a teacher and the first female principal in Belleville before her retirement at the age of 64. Even after her 100th birthday she remained very active; she was on skis for her 100th birthday, and she worked as a hospital volunteer until the age of 104. She outlived one of her children, Rosemary, who died in 1991 at the age of 51 years.
On her 110th birthday, Slack said that it might be her last.
