Biography
Masu Usui was born in Oyama, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan on 18 December 1910.
In September 2016, she was recognized as the oldest living person in Oyama City.
In December 2020, Usui celebrated her 110th birthday, reaching supercentenarian status. By November 2021, she was acknowledged as the third-oldest known living person in Shizuoka Prefecture, following Kahoru Furuya and Hana Kato.
Upon the passing of 114-year-old Kahoru Furuya on 25 December 2022, Usui assumed the title of the oldest living person in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Masu Usui passed away at age 114 years, 154 days on May 21 2025. She had been the oldest known person in Japan for one day following the passing of Mine Kondo, who died the day before.

The age of Masu Usui has been meticulously examined and verified by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) in Japan, Ayuta Tonomura, and validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) on 5 January 2024.
