Biography

Marie-Madeleine Saint-Laurent was born as Marie-Madeleine Borrut in Mane, Haute-Garonne, Occitanie, France on 9 August 1912. She was the daughter of Clement Borrut and Nieves “Agnes” Gerotina. Marie-Madeleine spent her childhood in Catalonia, Spain, and at the age of 8, her family returned to France, settling in Masseube, Gers.

At 29, she married Georges Saint-Laurent, a soldier, and the couple relocated to Algeria (then French Algeria) in 1941. After the Algerian War, they returned to metropolitan France and later moved to Chad. Eventually, they came back to France, settling in Paris. In the late 60s, Saint-Laurent’s husband retired, and they moved to Simorre (Gers) and later to Auch in 1989. She became a widow in 2001. At 107, she moved into the nursing home Les Jardins d’Agape in Auch. In August 2022, she celebrated her 110th birthday.

She became the oldest known living person in Occitanie region and Gers department, following the death of 111-year-old Paulette Magne-Ducamin on 12 January 2024.

Marie-Madeleine Saint-Laurent died at the Les Jardins d’Agape nursing home in Auch, Gers, Occitanie, France on 14 March 2024 at the age of 111 years 218 days.
