Biography
Marianna Błaziak was born on 14 September 1909. She lived in the village of Dobryniów-Kolonia, Łopiennik Górny Municipality, Krasnystaw County Lublin Voivodeship.
Marianna was the daughter of a non-commissioned officer in the Tsarist army. She raised four children and had seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. She lived through the partitions, both World War I and World War II, and then the difficult post-war period. She was a member of the Red Cross and participated in the construction of the Church of Divine Mercy in Dobryniów.
Mrs. Marianna Błaziak celebrated her 110th birthday surrounded by family, as well as representatives from local government and cultural institutions. There was also a jubilee cake and champagne.
Despite her age, Mrs. Marianna, having reached such a remarkable age, was still cheerful and in good spirits.
Mrs. Marianna was cared for by her daughter Zofia. She listened to the radio and watched television every day without needing glasses.
During the celebration, when the mayor asked if she needed anything or if anything was lacking, she jokingly replied that she could use some guests. When her great-grandson asked what she would like to eat, she said, “some herring and a beer.”
On 14 September 2019 she celebrated her 110th birthday as the second person in the history of Lublin Voivodeship, after Jadwiga Szubartowicz in 2015.
Marianna Błaziak died on 25 September 2019 at the age of 110 years, 11 days. She was the oldest living person in Lublin Voivodeship and the third-oldest living person in Poland until her death.
