Biography
Maria Concepcion Bravo Chavez was born in Uruapan, Michoacan, Mexico on 1 April 1913 as the eighth of 10 children born to a single mother. Her parents married in 1917, but both tragically passed away within a week when she was just 5 years old due to the Spanish Flu pandemic. During her childhood, she found refuge with her uncle and aunt, Mateo and Vicenta, who provided her with a loving home. She got married and raised seven daughters: Emma, Estela, Elena, Maria de Lourdes, Martha, Maria Guadalupe, and Maria del Rocio.
According to her family, the secret to her longevity is her natural diet. Every morning, as a sacred ritual, she would eat an apple on an empty stomach. “It is the elixir of youth,” she would often say. Even in her centenarian years, she continued to hand-wash her clothes, cook, and maintain a decent level of physical activity.
On 1 April 2023, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian. At the age of 111, she had 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
