Biography
Kazuichi Shono was born in Togochi, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan on 4 July 1891. In his later years, he lived in the nursing home Jukouen [Japanese: 寿光園].
Following the death of 108-year-old Taiichi Kawakami on 27 July 1999, Shono became the oldest living man in Hiroshima Prefecture. His age was verified by the IDL and Japan’s MHLW, and (posthumously) validated by the GRG on 4 February 2014 (he was validated as “anonymous” at the time).
Kazuichi Shono died in Kake, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan on 28 August 2001 at the age of 110 years, 55 days. At the time of his death, he was the fourth-oldest living man in Japan, after Yukichi Chuganji, Kumekichi Tani, and Tadanosuke Hashimoto.
