Jozefa Karczewska was born in Gągolin, Russian Empire (now Gągolin Północny, Kocierzew Południowy Municipality, Łowicz County, Łódź Voivodeship, Poland). She married and lived in the village of Bednary Kolonia. She is the oldest validated person in the history of Łódź Voivodeship.

Józefa Karczewska passed away in Łowicz, Łowicz County, Łódź Voivodeship, Poland, on 18 January 2013 at age 110 years, 56 days. She was the first validated supercentenarian in the history of Łódź Voivodeship.

Józefa Karczewska became the oldest living person in Poland (Doyenne of Poland) since the passing of 110-year-old Marianna Misiewicz on 28 June 2012 and she held the title until her own death on 18 January 2013 at age 110 years, 56 days. She was the last surviving person in Poland born in 1902.

In 2023, GRG Correspondent for Poland and Nordic Countries, Waclaw Jan Kroczek travelled to Bednary-Kolonia and met the relatives of Józefa Karczewska strenghtening the scientific validation of her case.
