Biography
Jean Octave Arthur Teillet was born in a town called Sainte-Hermine, which lays in the region of Pays de la Loire, France on 6 November 1866. He was the 5th and youngest of his parents Joseph (1827–1900) and Victorine Teillet’s (1824–1902) children. Joseph worked as a farmer and servant. Victorine was a housewife. By 1874, Jean was the only surviving sibling.
At age 14, he was already working, although it’s not clear as to which job he held. When he was 20, he moved out of his parents’ home and joined the military. He worked as a hairdresser at the time. He would later cut the (facial) hair of notable people such as Victor Hugo and Georges Clemenceau. When he was 24, he lived in Paris. He was 4’11″ [1.5 Meters] as a young adult.
On 18 February 1908, Teillet married the 20-years-younger girl Berthe Hauguel. She worked as a laundress. In the late 1960s/early 1970s, he moved to a nursing home. Berthe died on 26 September 1974 at the age of 87, when he was 107 years old.
Jean Teillet died in Issy-les-Moulineaux, Ile-de-France, France on 17 March 1977, at the age of 110 years, 131 days.
