Biography
Fumie Suzuki was born in Ōtaki, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, on 20 June 1912. After graduating from a girls’ high school, she worked as an assistant nurse in Tokyo during her teenage years.
Throughout her later years, she frequently traveled with her children, enjoying family trips to destinations like Hakone and Atami until her late 90s.
On 20 June 2022, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.
At the age of 107, she suffered a fall at home resulting in a broken hip. Following a two-month hospitalization, she moved into a nursing home in Aikawa Town.
Fumie Suzuki died in Aikawa, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, on 25 December 2024, at the age of 112 years, 188 days. At the time of her death, she was the second-oldest living person in Kanagawa Prefecture, behind Nobu Kawano.
