Biography

Nunez Olivera was born in Bienvenida, Extremadura, Spain on 13 December 1904. He was known fondly as “Marchena”, a nickname given to him when a boy mistook him for the famous Spanish singer, Pepe Marchena. When he was 19, he joined the army and went to Morocco. At the time of his 110th birthday in 2014, he had four children, nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a 91-year-old sister.

Nunez Olivera died in Bienvenida, Extremadura, Spain on 29 January 2018 at the age of 113 years, 47 days. He was succeeded as the world’s oldest man by Japan’s Masazo Nonaka, and as Spain’s oldest man by Jesus Mosteo Perez.
