Eugénie Roux was born in Saint-Claude, Jura, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France, on 24 January 1874.
On 25 April 1981, following the death of 109-year-old Elvire Mendiboure, Roux became the oldest living person in France.
On 24 January 1984, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian.
On 31 March 1986, at the age of 112 years, 66 days, she surpassed the final age of Augustine Teissier (1869–1981) of 112 years, 65 days, becoming the oldest person ever in France.
Eugénie Roux died in Lyon, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France, on 20 June 1986, at the age of 112 years, 147 days. Following her death, then 111-year-old Jeanne Calment, became the oldest living person in France. She was also the oldest French person ever, until her age was surpassed by Jeanne Calment on 18 July 1987.
