Corine Walter was born in was born in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, USA, on Sept. 5, 1902. Over her life she has had 10 children, 38 grandchildren and more than 100 great-grandchildren, according to her family. At the time of her 110th birthday, she lived with her then 82-year-old daughter Louise Gresham. Walter would work in the fields during the day picking cotton, feeding chickens and hogs, tending the garden and gathering eggs. The family raised its own meat, canned its own food and made soap, among other things, living a self-sufficient life. Walter also cared for her ten children amid washing clothes by hand, ironing and cooking. Walter lived by herself in her own apartment, cooked her own meals and took good care of herself until she reached 100.
