Clarabell Demers was born in Acton, North Dakota, USA, on November 3, 1910, the oldest of three children born to Victor and Philomina Campbell. She had a younger brother, Harold (deceased 1981), and a younger sister, Odell (deceased 1975). Demers grew up in the village of Oakwood, which is just east of Grafton. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church there before going on to St. John’s in Grafton. She married Frederick Demers in February 1930 and had four children with him, including Mary Jane (deceased 2018), Donald, and Ronald (deceased 2015). Frederick died in 1979. With her late husband, Demers helped run the JR’s bar in Oakwood. It has been known for its taco night on Wednesdays. The bar is operated by her son Donald and grandsons Guy and Gene. As of her 112th birthday, Demers was still able to walk with the help of a walker and lived in Grafton, North Dakota, USA.
