Her father was a postman in Lisbon when she was born, as written in her baptism record. At 9 months of age she and her family moved to Lisbon to join her father. Clara worked as seamstress and never married or had children.
Clara Lopes dos Santos died in Lisbon, Portugal on 25 October 2006 at the age of 112 years, 213 days. She remains the oldest person ever born in Viseu district.
