Biography
Chiyo Yanagawa was born in Japan on 28 September 1911. At some point, she moved to Yao, Osaka.
On 12 September 2018, shortly before turning 107, she was visited by the mayor of Yao City. At this point, she was already the oldest person in the city and the last person in Yao born in the Meiji period. Her secret to staying healthy is eating, reading, and laughing a lot.
As of September 2023, she still lived at home, where she spent her time in bed and was helped by caretakers. She enjoyed singing songs with the staff and listening to sumo broadcasts and singing contests on the radio she keeps by her bedside.
She likely became the oldest person in Osaka Prefecture following the death of 116-year-old Fusa Tatsumi, the oldest person in Japan, on 12 December 2023.
As of her 112th birthday, Chiyo Yanagawa was a resident of Yao, Osaka Prefecture, Japan.
