Biography

Annamah Abukutty was born in Thachambadi, Tiruvannamalai, British Raj (now India) on 31 March 1911 (she claimed to have been born in 1910, but only registered a year later in 1911).

She married and had five children (including Subramanian Madackanu), two of whom remained in India. At the age of 18, she moved to Malaysia with her husband, who got a tree-cutting job in the country. Her husband died during World War II between 1942 and 1943, after which she raised the family by providing her services and tree cutting part-time.

As of June 2020, she had two living children, 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, some of whom are in India.

On 19 June 2020, she was officially recognised as the oldest living woman in Malaysia by Malaysia Book of Records (MBR). She celebrated her 110th birthday in March 2021.

Abukutty died in Batu Gajah, Perak, Malaysia on 1 June 2022, at the age of 111 years, 62 days. She lived with her son Subramanian Madackanu (aged 73 in March 2021).
