Anna de Guchtenaere was born in Ledeberg, Ghent, Belgium, on Apr. 10, 1904. During World War 1, de Guchtenaere family fled from occupied Belgium to England. Back in Belgium she studied at the Conservatory of Ghent. She was a violinist for silent films. After the emergence of sound film, she worked as a secretary. Anna de Guchtenaere had a son and a daughter, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Since 26 August 2014 she was the oldest person ever in the province of Ghent. Following the death of 112-year old Fanny Godin (1902-2014) on Sept. 7, 2014, she became the Doyenne of Belgium.

Anna de Guchtenaere died in Zwijnaarde, Ghent, Belgium, on April 6, 2015, in the nursing home where she lived, just four days shy of her 111th birthday.
