Jose Angel Flores Vallecillo, Honduras’ oldest living person, celebrated his 110th birthday
The Gerontology Research Group is delighted to announce that Mr. Jose Angel Flores Vallecillo, the oldest living person in Honduras and the oldest man ever in Honduras, celebrated his 110th birthday on 19 August 2024 in Taulabe, Comayagua, Honduras.
Jose Angel Flores Vallecillo was born in the city of San Pedro Sula, Cortes, Honduras on 19 August 1914 as the only child born to his parents. After completing his studies, he began working as a driver at the age of 17, before later training to work as a mechanic. His job led to him receiving courses in the United States, where he became certified as a mechanic. According to his family, his father lived to be 99, and died after being hit by a car.
In 1956, he married Evelia Rodriguez, and had four daughters with her. The couple were married for 63 years until Evelia’s death in 2019.
On 3 February 2023, following the death of 108-year-old Adolfo Iriarte Portillo, he became the oldest known living man and person in Honduras.
On 20 April 2024, he surpassed the age of Toribio Isaula Rosales (1904–2013) of 109 years, 244 days, becoming the oldest known man ever in Honduras.
On 19 August 2024, he celebrated his 110th birthday, making him the first known male supercentenarian from Honduras and the second overall, behind Isabel Guell Padilla (1910–2021).
