Dr. Coles' Supercentenarian Institute
The Gerontology Research Group is delighted to announce that Mrs. Anna Furrer, the oldest living person in Switzerland, celebrated her 111th birthday on 23 June 2024 in Erstfeld, Canton of Uri, Switzerland.
Martha Anna Furrer-Omlin was born as Martha Omlin in the village of Sachseln, Obwalden, Switzerland on 23 June 1913. She grew up on a farm with her four sisters and two brothers. She married Ambros Furrer in Sachseln in 1949 and had two sons. She later moved to Erstfeld, Uri, Switzerland. Her husband died in 1989.
In June 2023, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming the first supercentenarian in the Swiss canton of Uri.
On 23 February 2024, following the death of 111-year-old Marie Guerne, she became the oldest living person in Switzerland.
The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is a global non-profit dedicated to validating, recording, and researching supercentenarians — those aged 110 or older. Founded in 1990, we focus on human longevity, healthy aging, and studying the lives of the world’s oldest people.
Our work requires significant funding for research, travel, and maintaining our website. Any financial support would greatly aid our mission to advance the understanding of human longevity.
If you wish to support our research financially, please donate to our efforts, but only if you can afford it. We would greatly appreciate even a symbolic support. Thank you!
