Marie-Rose Tessier, France’s oldest living person celebrated her 114th birthday

The Gerontology Research Group is pleased to announce that Mrs. Marie-Rose Tessier, the oldest living person in France, celebrated her 114th birthday in Chateau-d’Olonne, Vendee, Pays de la Loire, France on 21 May 2024.

Marie-Rose Tessier was born as Marie-Rose Bousseau in a farm in Beaurepaire, Vendee, Pays de la Loire, France on 21 May 1910. She married Auguste Tessier in Ardelay (now Les Herbiers) Vendee on 14 November 1927. Her husband died in 1944.

In April 2018, Tessier participated in a meeting with students of the Ecole St. Paul School in Chateau-d’Olonne to share her memories of World War I, along with other people. In May 2020, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian.

Following the death of 113-year-old Marie-Florentine Jousseaume on 20 December 2020, Tessier became the oldest living person in Vendee department. She became the oldest living person in the region of Pays de la Loire, following the death of 113-year-old Marie-Louise Berthelot on 17 January 2021.

Following the death of 118-year-old Lucile Randon on 17 January 2023, she became the oldest living person in France.
