Joan Hocquard (1908-2020)

The GRG announces the age validation of Joan Eileen Hocquard, nee Reynolds. Joan was born March 29th 1908 in Kensington, London, England. After finishing school, Joan got a job in a hotel in Switzerland, but moved back to England at the outbreak of the Second World War. Whilst in Switzerland, some time between 1926 and 1930, Joan married Christopher Monson. By 1939, back in England, Joan was a widow. She married again in July 1942 to Emile Gilbert Hocquard, who sadly passed away in 1981. By this time, Joan was living on the south coast, where she met a man named Kenneth Bedford, who became her partner, although they never married. They lived together in Poole, Dorset, where Joan passed away on October 24th 2020, aged 112 years, 209 days. From December 2019, Joan held the title, alongside Bob Weighton, as the joint-oldest living person in the UK. When Bob passed away in May 2020, Joan held the title solely until her passing.

Joan’s age was verified by Waclaw Jan Kroczek and myself, later accepted with a retroactive date of November 30th 2020.
