Hazel Urie (1903-2014) validation
The GRG announces today the age validation of Hazel Switzer Urie, nee Shannon of Canada. Hazel was born September 17th 1903 in Huron, Huron County, Ontario, Canada. She had two siblings – a sister and brother. On March 29th 1929, Hazel married James Samuel Urie and they went on to have two sons. Sadly, in 1966, Hazel was widowed when James died. After a long career working for Ford Motor Company, Hazel continued volunteering work, even up to age 100. Unfortunately, Hazel had to give up playing bridge and other table games when she 107, due to failing eyesight. On August 1st 2014, Hazel passed away in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, at age 110 years, 318 days. She was in the top 5 oldest living people in Canada before her death.
Hazel’s age was verified by Anson Davis, Waclaw Jan Kroczek and myself, later retroactively accepted by the GRG as valid on March 17th 2016.
